Fundamental
structure-function correlations are identified in an
important class of industrial enzymes known as
laccases, using a recently developed computational
technique (computational-chemical evolution). These
correlations will be used to formulate optimally
stable and functional laccases for use as industrial
biocatalysts. Selected, new laccase mutants are
produced and tested for enhanced stability and
retained function in a variety of industrially
relevant chemical environments.
